Haiti Project
Aquin, Haiti is a city of approx. 100,000 on the Caribbean seacoast, about three hours' drive southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince. In an otherwise beautiful location, the residents, farmers and fishermen of Aquin are chronically poor, short of potable water and safe sanitation, and vulnerable to storms, floods, cholera, Zika, and suffer from high maternal and infant mortality.
The Rotary Clubs of London are now launching a multi-year, multi-club initiative in partnership with the Haitian Resource Development Foundation and other international donors to help the people of Aquin via projects in the areas health and education and economic development (fishing, boat-building, mangoes, coffee, and honeybees.)
Are you interested in making a donation to this initiative in Aquin? (a tax receipt will be issued for all donations)
The World Community Service (WCS) Committee is in the process of selecting a new project that (1) can be completed within 12 months, (2) has a Host Rotary Club Partner in a 3rd world country that has a strong commitment to the project, (3) is sustainable and (4) can be funded by funds raised by our Rotary club, our Satellite Rotary Club, the host Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of London’s Foundation.
The committee is actively seeking additional members who want to be involved in an International project to join our committee. Every project will require a “champion” who will coordinate the work of our club members, the club Foundation and the members of the Host Club.
The Market Children Scholarship Program (Danli, Honduras)
For several years, this project assisted 480 students to attend school in Danli Honduras, by supplying the students with the required uniforms, shoes, back packs and books and fees for extra activities.
Paul Harris School, Salina Cruz, Mexico (Rotary Club of Salina Cruz)
Named after the founder of Rotary, the Paul Harris School is an elementary school serving 380 students in an impoverished area. After 30 years of use, the school electrical and septic systems are in desperate need of upgrade. This will be accomplished through a $10,000 donation by Rotary Club of London.
The Empowerment Project (Women in Rotary)
Rotary Club of London will provide a matching fund of up to $5,000 to the Empowerment Project. The project, sponsored by Women in Rotary, will facilitate micro-financing to women entrepreneurs in developing countries around the world, to enable them to use their talents to lift themselves out of poverty.
Reacting to Disasters
When disasters occur, the committee will collaborate with Disaster Relief Rotarian Action Group, Disaster Aide Canada and/or Shelter Box.
