Understanding Why We Waste Foodand How We Can Change. At the Rotary Club of London meeting on Monday, March 9, members welcomed Dr. Bonnie Simpson, Professor at Western University’s DAN Department of Management and Organizational Studies, for a thought-provoking presentation on consumer behaviour and food waste. .
Dr. Simpson’s research explores why people make the choices they do — from sustainable purchasing to charitable giving — and why even small decisions, such as declining a $2 donation at the grocery checkout, can reveal important insights about human behaviour. Drawing on research highlighted in a recent Rotary Magazine feature on food waste, Dr. Simpson showed how understanding consumer behaviour can help communities reduce waste and promote more sustainable habits. Her engaging presentation reminded Rotarians that tackling global challenges like food waste begins with understanding everyday decisions. Dr. Simpson was thanked by Rotarian Al Hardy for sharing her insights with the club.
