Polio Plus Society PIns are presented to 6 Rotary Club of London Members John Boyne, Jim Belton, Harry Joosten, Kirk Patterson, Randy Harden, & Al Hardy The PolioPlus Society is a Rotary district-led initiative where members pledge to donate at least $100 annually to the PolioPlus Fund until polio is eradicated worldwide. Donations support vaccination campaigns and the "plus" refers to additional benefits, like sanitation or health services, provided to children.
Established in 1985, PolioPlus is Rotary International's premier humanitarian program. The "plus" in PolioPlus indicates that the program provides additional health benefits to children, such as: Hand-operated tricycles for survivors. Insecticide-treated bed nets to prevent malaria. Access to solar-powered boreholes for clean water. . Soap and other health necessities. Rotary International. The program has reduced polio cases by 99% worldwide. The society was officially recognized by Rotary International Trustees in 2022 to support this ongoing, critical effort.
