MEDIA ALERT

London ON -- The Rotary Club of London (the “downtown” club) is delighted to announce Jeannette Eberhard as this year’s recipient of the distinguished Jack Burghardt Service Above Self Award. Jeannette was the Club’s first woman president in 1994.

Presented annually since 1996, the Jack Burghardt award is given to a valuable and committed Rotarian, who has performed significant voluntary work outside Rotary. Winners are nominated by members of the Club and selected by the Board of Directors.

“As in all areas of this Rotarian’s life, Jeannette excels as a volunteer. Her commitments are completed with passion, dedication, creativity, good humour and plain old-fashioned hard work,” says fellow Rotarian, and brother-in-law, John Eberhard. “Jeannette is an outstanding role model. Her capacity for competent leadership, willing participation and cheerful energetic service to the Club and the community has been an inspiration to so many.”

In addition to serving in many capacities at Rotary, Jeannette is currently the chair of the London Community Foundation, and has served on the selection committee for the Women of Excellence Award many times. Jeannette has been a member of the London YMCA Board of Directors, a past president of the London Women’s Network, chairperson of the London Central Secondary School Parents’ Athletic Association and the Ryerson School Council, a trustee of First St. Andrew’s United Church and a board member of the Western Alumni Association.

March 30, 2009

On Monday, March 30, London’s “downtown” Rotarians will put their good work on the road with the launch of Youth for Christ’s new and improved Streetlight bus. The bus was worn out and needed to be replaced.

Thanks to the support of Rotary and other generous sponsors the Streetlight mobile youth centre will hit the road this week in a brand new RV. The new mobile home enables Youth for Christ staff to carry on their important work of reaching out to youth at street level.

Who:               Cheryl Miller, City Councilor

Bob Black, Executive Director, Youth for Christ
