The Rotary Club of London International Projects
The Rotary Club of London has a strong tradition of supporting international projects. Our focus has traditionally been on projects related to literacy and water, particularly those projects that benefit women and children. Recently our club has funded a project in Cameroon to bring clean drinking water to a school in a local community. Thanks to the Rotary Club of London the Lumen Christi Bilingual Nursery and Primary School in Tiko now has clean water at the school, a kitchen so that the teachers can feed their students onsite, and better educational supplies to further promote literacy. The Lumen Christi School is focused on furthering the education of the girls of the local community, a segment of the population that is traditionally not educated in Cameroon . You can see from the attached photos the difference that the Rotary Club of London is making in improving the education of these young children.
The Rotary Club of London has also partnered with the Rotary Club of Delhi Midwest in India to fund a Resource Centre at the National Institute for the Blind in New Delhi . This Resource Centre acts as a department store where visually impaired people can purchase supplies like talking calculators to aid them in their daily lives and to integrate into working society. Our club helped to fund the purchase of the initial supplies for the Resource Centre to get it up and running. All profits from the sale of supplies are invested back into the Resource Centre, thus making this project self sustaining.
In years past, the Rotary Club of London has engaged in several projects to bring clean water to communities. Most notable were the creation of a clean water infrastructure in Honduras in an area devastated by Hurricane Mitch, and the construction of a water tower in the community of Umuezie Nguru in Nigeria .
Our club has also been a strong supporter of the PolioPlus Project, making regular contributions to Rotary International’s program to eradicate polio from the world.
These are just some examples of the difference that the Rotarians of our club are having on the lives of people throughout the world.
